Description

Twang Bangers perform live at 620 State in historic downtown Bristol on June 16.   Since forming in 2008, The Twang Bangers have become one of the top-drawing bands in the Tri-Cities region. The group has carved out a loyal audience in the Mountain Empire with a unique blend of alternative southern music -- a style encompassing everything from Garth Brooks and the Allman Brothers to Tom Petty and Stone Temple Pilots. The group reformed in April with four original members, Wes Holtsclaw (Vocals), Tyler McCoy (Acoustic Guitar), Abe Spear (Steel Guitar), Clint Riddle (Lead Guitar), and two new additions, Brent Strange (Drums) and Burl Williams (Bass). “After our (final) show (with the original lineup) in January, many people kept asking for our return,” said Wes Holtsclaw, lead vocalist. “Those words of encouragement and support have brought us to this point. We may look a little different, but the show will be even better this time around.” Five of the band’s six members are current students or alumni of East Tennessee State University’s Bluegrass, Old Time and Country Music program. One listen to the group and one can gain insight to the southern roots influences discovered from their studies. The Twang Bangers have performed alongside artists such as Trent Tomlinson, Cowboy Troy, James Wesley and the Delta Saints, and in hallowed venues such as Nashville's famed Tootsie's Orchid Lounge.
