Visitors to Autotrader.com Speedway In Lights have always driven around Bristol Motor Speedway and Bristol Dragway during the holiday light show but this year, if they choose to, they also can run or walk through 3.1 miles of the route.

Just days before opening night of the 14th season of Speedway In Lights, one of the country’s most dazzling and successful holiday events, Bristol Motor Speedway will open the course to runners and walkers of every age for the Speedway In Lights 5k Run/Walk Nov. 14.  The 5k Run/Walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. that evening.

The SIL 5k is a perfect way to get into the spirit of the season with a preview of Autotrader.com Speedway In Lights, while also supporting Speedway Children’s Charities as all funds raised through the event will benefit the Bristol Chapter of the non-profit organization.

Adults wishing to enter the 5k Run/Walk can do so for $20 in advance of the event or $25 the day of the race. Children 12 and under may enter for $5 in advance for an untimed entry or $7 for a timed entry.  Children 3 and under are free and will not be timed.

All adult participants will receive a long-sleeve event t-shirt, as well as a sling bag. All participants 12 and under will receive a sling bag and an event medallion upon finishing.

Event medallions will be awarded to both male and female runners in the following categories, (Top 3): Top Overall, Top Masters, Top Grand Masters, as well as age groups (Top 3): under 10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60 and over.  In addition, the top three overall finishers in both the male and female categories will be awarded additional prizes. 1st place Overall male and female winners will receive two suite seats to the March and August race weekends in 2011 and a free pass to Speedway In Lights. Second-place Overall male and female finishers take home two grandstand tickets to both the March and August Sprint Cup events and third-place Overall male and female runners will receive two tickets to the March Sprint Cup event.
