Real Women Pick Pink Sign Lighting
Bristol Train Station Circle
On October 1, 2012, the century old Bristol sign will undergo a dramatic transformation. In an effort to raise awareness of National Breast Cancer Month, the more than 1,000 white bulbs in the sign will be replaced with pink. The changing of the sign is the first event of the month-long observation which ends with a female-centric music event on October 20. Proceeds from the event will benefit local cancer education and patient care through Wellmont Cancer Institute and Tri-Cities Susan G. Komen For The Cure.
Crews from Bristol Tennessee Essential Services and BVU Authority will work in tandem to install the pink bulbs in the Bristol Sign on September 27. The process will render the historic sign dark for three nights, but then, on October 1, a dramatic lighting ceremony will take place at 7:30 pm at the Bristol Train Station circle, and historic downtown Bristol will be washed in pink throughout the entire month.
